How can GE help your business save precious time when an arc flash occurs? In this video, watch a sequence of demonstrations showing how The GE Arc Vault™ protection system withholds the damage compared to a system without protection.

The first test is at 480V, 65kA, and 6 cycles, which translates to ~15cal/cm2 HRC3. You will see a box to the right of the screen where the arc flash is initiated. The box contains 3 bus bars, spaced one inch apart, and connected by stranded wire. The switchgear section is not used in this test. The speed of the video is slowed to 30% of real time.

The second test demonstrates the transfer of the arc from the initial location into the Arc Vault™ chamber. This test is also conducted at 480V, 65kA, and 6 cycles. In this clip, the Arc Vault™ device is installed in the switchgear section. The arc flash will be initiated in the same box, but the fault will be transferred to the Arc Vault™ in less than 8ms ~1.1cal/cm2 (HRC0). The speed and duration of this video is identical to Test 1.

Finally, a side-by-side comparison of the previous demonstrations proves how this technology adds value to your business through its superior features. The system will contain a flash in less than 8ms with the circuit breaker compartment doors open during operation and maintenance. The incident energy in accordance with IEEE 1584 at 18″ from the arc event will be less than 1.2 cal/cm², which is equivalent to HRC0, for a 480V HRG system with available fault currents up to 100 kA.
