  • How to Replace a Breaker (Residential Panel)

    This is extremely simple, and not to be feared, but rather, respected. Just make sure first order of business is to flip the main breaker so the whole panel is dead. Even still, I make sure to wear rubber soled shoes and use rubber/plastic handled tools. You can just never be too safe with electrical.

    Kill the main
    Disconnect wires from old breaker
    Pull it out
    Plug wires into new breaker
    Push it in

    It really is that simple. Takes 3 minutes to explain and about 30 seconds to do.

    Now as I mentioned this breaker was actually a sort of GFCI breaker, so it’s like a breaker within a breaker. I was replacing it because it tripped but when I went to reset it, it wouldn’t stay reset. So because of it’s internal grounding mechanism, it carries the extra neutral wire that a standard breaker does not.
