100 miles south of Miami, energy supplier Keys Energy Services operates the Big Pine substation, home to an old Westinghouse transformer which transforms power from 138kV to 13.8kV. The UVT on-load tap-changer on this transformer has regularly required maintenance. The costs and long downtime periods of this regular maintenance caused major problems for Keys Energy Services. The solution: retrofit with a new VACUTAP® UVT-LTX from Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen.

The LTX, which stands for Life Time Extension, transformed an old Westinghouse UVT into a new VACUTAP® RMV-II. Only the load-switching unit, gearbox and motor-drive unit had to be replaced. The housing, contact board, and selector elements of the old UVT could be kept. This also meant that the oil didn’t have to be pumped out of the transformer. All in all, this was a low-cost solution for Keys Energy Services, especially since the maintenance interval was extended to 500,000 tap-change operations. Since it is unlikely that this number of tap-change operations will ever be reached in a normal network application such as that used at Big Pine, the tap-changer is now virtually maintenance-free.
100 Meilen südlich von Miami betreibt der Energieversorger Keys Energy Services das Umspannwerk Big Pine. Hier wird mit einem alten Westinghouse Transformator von 138kV auf 13,8kV transformiert. Der Laststufenschalter Typ UVT an diesem Trafo benötigte in regelmäßigen Abständen eine Wartung. Neben den Kosten für die Wartung bereitete auch die dafür notwendige längere Stromabschaltung dem Versorger größeres Kopfzerbrechen. Die Lösung war der neue VACUTAP® UVT-LTX der Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen.

LTX steht für Life Time Extension (Lebensdauerverlängerung) und machte in diesem Fall aus einem alten Westinghouse UVT quasi einen neuen VACUTAP® RMV-II. Ausgetauscht werden mussten lediglich die Lastschalteinheit sowie Getriebe und Motorantrieb. Gehäuse, Kontaktboard und Wählerelemente des alten UVT konnten verbleiben. Somit musste auch das Öl aus dem Transformator nicht abgepumpt werden. Alles in allem eine kosteneffiziente Lösung für Keys Energy Services, vor allem auch deshalb, da das Wartungsintervall nun bei 500.000 Schaltungen liegt. Diese Schaltzahl wird in einer normalen Netzanwendung, wie hier vorliegend, nie erreicht, somit ist der Stufenschalter also wartungsfrei.


Today we'll be doing a review of how to install the Camco Power Grip Replacement RV Power Cord Plug with Handle in the 30 amp in the made end, part number CAM55245. Now to change out this plug on your existing power cord or extension cord by 30 amp RV style plug, all you'll need is a razor knife to trim back the outer coating, phillips head screwdriver, take out the screws, as well as tighten down these, as well as tightening down the inner screws and a pair of wire strippers to strip back the installation on the internal wires before you make your connections inside here. It will take about 5 minutes and you can have your plug changed. Here's our cord, it would be the end that would plug in to our trailer, our camper and this is the end that you plug in to your outlet at your campsite, your 30 amp 125 volt. If this end was damaged, Camco has a replacement for it, it is a 30 amp male end or 125 volt for your camper, so your cord would not be a complete waste. You could simply cut the end of this off and you'd have to strip back some of these outer coating, so you expose the wires, you'll have a green, a black and a white wire in there. For purposed today though, we're not going to cut this one, this is actually still a good cord, but if this end was damaged, this replacement would actually go on here. We'll go ahead and go over how you would wire this new plug. Let's go ahead and you'll need a small phillips head screw driver.
