STORYLINE:
The Hong Kong stock market opened down 0.99 percent, or 208.21 points lower at 20772.60, after Chinese stocks nosedived on Thursday.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index tumbled 7.3 percent to 3,115.89 before new “circuit breakers” suspended trading for the day
It was the second daylong trading halt of the week and sent other Asian markets sharply lower as investor jitters rippled across the region.
