I’m assisting and teaching my friend Eric with replacing his electrical breaker box and adding an additional service panel. He has never attempted to do this before. Eric has obtained an electrical permit as a homeowner. This is allowed in our jurisdiction.

After inspection, wire-nuts were used inside the box, wires were being spliced, wires were being extended with the wrong gauge wire, and water was leaking into the box from within the service entry wire itself.

The current code requires AFCI breakers. My recent dealings with inspectors didn’t require them. I will assist Eric in-case the inspector does make further requests.

Please do not try this at home unless you have electrical experience or a professional by your side.
