On 1988 to 1999 Chevrolet and GMC Trucks, the vehicles were designed so when the high beam lights were selected, the low beam bulbs would extinguish. While with proper bulbs, the distant illumination is adequate enough, this leaves a rather dull spot of illumination immediately in front of the vehicle for about 50 to 60 feet. This can be tiring on the eyes. This movie clip consists of a fairly simple modification that can be done, it is mentioned enough on several sites, and there are even kits available to do the project. The problem is, in some places outside of the USA, ordering one in can get to be rather expensive once postage/shipping is factored in. By doing a little scrounging at wrecking yards for a few simple parts, consisting of a 4-pin relay, a circuit breaker or at least a fuse with its holder, a relay pigtail, and some decent gauge wiring, one can make a device for pennies on their own. With this, the low beam lights will stay lit once high beams are selected, giving a nice and even spread of light in front of the truck. It finally warmed up enough around here, a whole 18 degrees F, for me to get outside and at least get the project done, though it needs a little tidying up. With this there is a little hope warmer weather will be around soon enough so old vehicle projects can resume once again. I tried my best in the movie, there is some mumbo-jumbo, so I made a diagram for the end of the movie to try to explain the project better for you, and help you to do the same on your truck if you wish. Remember to please take no shortcuts doing any sort of wiring on any vehicle, always fuse or circuit protect the project, disconnect batteries for certain types of projects, or at the least make you constant power supply the very last connection. Be sure no wire is near high heat or where it may be pinched. I see my one hater hates me already! Show us all how to do it you troll!
